Compared to those, the M40 is the complete opposite in every sense. The decorative details are stripped away, making it simpler and more practical.\u003cbr\u003eUnlike the somewhat large and rough pockets seen on the M-35, this one is designed with more practicality in mind, retaining only the necessary functions. It truly feels like military supplied clothing.  Until now, I haven't been drawn to so-called WW2 chore coats with two-pockets, but this US Army one is different.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIt's somehow rugged, somehow rational. I was drawn to the \"reasonable roughness\" unique to military surplus.\u003cbr\u003eSimilar to the Seamen series, we wanted these to be worn as a denim tux, and we also made the matching pants of which the base design is the US ARMY M-35 denim trousers adopted in the late 1930s.\u003cbr\u003eThey feature a wide, relaxed silhouette and a high rise. The design, which prioritized workability, feels surprisingly fresh from a modern perspective, and it's a model that balances fashion and practicality very well.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eTo reproduce the roughness and slubby texture seen on the vintage US ARMY fabric, TCB tried an approach of using recycled cotton for both the warp and weft threads. While recycled cotton is often discussed in the context of environmental considerations, it inevitably results in a rougher yarn. For brands that want a clean \u0026amp; neat look, it can be considered a difficult material to work with in a sense. However, for TCB, that unavoidable unevenness was ideal. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe cotton that was once made into yarn is now made into yarn again. The unevenness created by the manufacturing process ultimately strongly evokes the atmosphere of that era. Furthermore, the weft threads use vat-dyed gray yarn. While the indigo dye develops a vibrant blue, the color appears somewhat deep and muted, which is said to be why indigo was often used for the workwear at the time to conceal stains \u0026amp; dirts. Although the fabric has undergone sanforization, the amount of water used has been intentionally kept to a minimum.As a result, the fabric still holds some raw feel, and it looks bumpy \u0026amp; rough on a surface. Moreover, because anti-twist treatment has been applied, natural twisting will occur as you wear it. It's not a uniform, perfectly finished denim but it's somewhat rough, somewhat imperfect. Sing Sing. It sounds like an opera house.\" but on the Japanese subtitles, it's translated as \"Sing Sing sounds like a cabaret.\" This translation, \"like a cabaret,\" made a strange impression on me. It would have been translated so because back in the days the concept of opera house must have not been spread and known in Japan.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWhen I was talking about this with RYO,\u003cbr\u003eI came up with the joking idea of having \"SING SING CABARET,\" as the stencil on our repro jacket and before I knew it, I was drawn to the word because only TCB with the vintage sewing machines and we are in Japan, we could do the stencil  this way.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eCabaret = a place of expression.\u003cbr\u003eOn the other hand, prison uniforms are a symbol of restrictions and rules.\u003cbr\u003eI thought this combination of opposing images was very TCB-like.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eWhen I actually got my hands on the vintage prison uniforms and looked at them closely, I found them to be truly fascinating.\u003cbr\u003eIn the world of workwear, we are always concerned with cost efficiency for more sales while keeping the functionality \u0026amp; the durability as much as possible but these prison uniforms were originally clothings not intended for sale.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe stitching is just simply applied without the edge of the fabrics overlocked.\u003cbr\u003eThey were simply sewn from the inside out with a plain stitch. I struggled to decide how to make them at TCB, but this time I decided to use a plain stitch with fringed seams.\u003cbr\u003eWe have retained a realistic roughness that gives you a sense of the atmosphere of the time. The same goes for the design.  There are no pockets to hide anything.\u003cbr\u003eWe thought that this would be a bit inconvenient outside the prison walls, so TCB added pockets on our take.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe cuffs are also very wide, about 19cm. Perhaps this is also to prevent hiding things.\u003cbr\u003eI considered leaving this part as it is, but I prioritized the silhouette and ease of everyday wear,and adjusted the width.\u003c\/div\u003e\n\u003cdiv\u003e\n\u003cbr\u003eAnother thing that impressed me was the cut pattern.\u003cbr\u003eAlthough the overall construction is rough, the stripe pattern on the front body is strangely perfectly aligned. I thought, \"This is the only detail they've put effort into,\" and when I looked more closely, I realized that it's actually a one-piece design with the bodice parts connected at the front and back.
